Pictures of the Past

This photo of an old church building in Black Rock was taken in 1992, not too long before an out-of-control trash fire burned the building down. According to Catherine Richey, she believes the building was originally built for the Presbyterian congregation in Black Rock, but from the time she can remember, there was no Presbyterian church meeting there. At the time this photo was taken, the Rock Hill Baptist Church would have been meeting in the building. It was located one block up from the old Cavanaugh Ford (now City Shop) building on Third Street. (Pictures of the Past is a cooperative effort of The Times Dispatch and the Lawrence County Historical Society. Readers are encouraged to submit historic photos.)
