Pictures of the Past

Before being bypassed, the four blocks in Hoxie where Highways 63 and 67 converged were the most traveled in Lawrence County at one time. This 1993 photograph features two businesses on that stretch. Ole Hickory BBQ (far left) offered a lunch special for $2.99 and the Exxon Station (on the right) offered gas for $1.02. (Pictures of the Past is a cooperative effort of The Times Dispatch and the Lawrence County Historical Society. Readers are encouraged to submit historic photos.)
