RICE HARVEST UNDERWAY

Rice harvest is underway in Lawrence County. Matt Hibbard (pictured) of Pocahontas and Gary Gill of Walnut Ridge cut the first few fields in the county, just north of Clear Lake Road. Gill, who has currently cut 400 acres, said, “We started on Aug. 24 and of course the rain is making it tough by not being able to cut every day. We’ve had monster dews and basically zero wind so we can’t start early or run late.” On Sunday, Hibbard stated, “We are on day three of rice harvest. All the wet weather recently has pushed us back a few days but the rest of this week’s weather forecast looks good so we are expecting to knock the majority of the rice acres out.”
