The Piggott Mohawks defeated the Walnut Ridge Bobcats 60-28 in 3A-3 senior football action on Friday night at Piggott.
Trailing 16-0 after the first quarter, Walnut Ridge got on the scoreboard early in the second period when Mari Thomas passed to Cole Manning for a 27-yard touchdown to cut the Mohawks’ lead to 16-6.
Piggott responded with two consecutive touchdowns to increase the margin to 30-6 with 4:14 remaining the half.
Thomas found Manning with another scoring pass, this one from four yards, with 1:30 to play in the period to make the halftime score 30-12.
The Mohawks erupted for 30 points in the third quarter to put the game out of reach.
Kai Watson ran for a two-yard touchdown with 10:46 to play in the game. Walker Ward ran for the conversion, making the score 60-20 in the Mohawks’ favor.
Watson added the Bobcats’ next score on a 10-yard run with just over a minute to play. Ward again added the two-point conversion to set the final score.
Thomas finished with five completions on 14 attempts, for 60 yards and two touchdowns. Watson was 0-for-1 passing.
Watson led the Walnut Ridge ground attack, gaining 98 yards and scoring two touchdowns on 11 carries. Thomas had 14 carries for 46 yards, and Ward added 12 yards on four carries.
Manning was the Bobcats’ leading receiver with three receptions for 31 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Mason Andrews had one reception for 21 yards, and Jaden Blaylock had one catch for eight yards.
The loss leaves Walnut Ridge at 1-4 overall and 0-3 in the conference. The Bobcats are scheduled to host Corning this week. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Sexton Field.
