The Hoxie senior girls basketball team won the championship of the 3A-3 District Tournament. The Lady Mustangs defeated Walnut Ridge 62-42 in the finals on Saturday at Mustang Gym. Top-seeded Hoxie and second-seeded Walnut Ridge squared off in the finals of the 3A-3 Senior Girls District Tournament Saturday night at Mustang Gym in Hoxie.

Hoxie jumped out to a big lead in the first half en route to a 62-42 win over the Lady Bobcats. The Lady Mustangs led 24-6 at the end of the first quarter, 38-15 at halftime and 48-25 after three quarters.

Jaecie Brown finished with 29 points and eight rebounds for the Lady Mustangs. Jaedyn Brown recorded 16 points and 14 rebounds, and Cara Forrester added nine points for Hoxie.

Bailey Augustine led Walnut Ridge with 27 points.

Semifinals Hoxie – Osceola

Sisters Jaecie and Jaedyn Brown accounted for 52 of Hoxie’s 55 points, as the Lady Mustangs overcame a halftime deficit to defeat Osceola 55-34 in semifinal action on Friday.

Hoxie trailed 19-17 at the intermission, before roaring back to outscore the Lady Seminoles 38-15 in the final two quarters to earn the 55-34 victory.

Jaecie Brown poured in 31 points and contributed seven rebounds and seven assists, while Jaedyn Brown finished with 21 points and eight rebounds. Ellery Gillham grabbed 11 rebounds for the Lady Mustangs.

WR – Manila

Walnut Ridge defeated Manila, 53-45, in Friday’s other semifinal game.
