The Williams Baptist University men’s basketball team opened their season with an 84-63 win over the Baptist Bible Patriots on Saturday afternoon.
Williams started the game with a 19-3 run and stretched the lead out to 20 at one point in the first half before going into halftime up 45-30. The Patriots tried to make things interesting in the second half, but the Eagles were up to the challenge and put them away.
Brian Davis’ double-double led the team with 18 points and 11 rebounds. A pair of Eagles were also in double figures, as Cortez King scored 16 and Brayden Brewer scored 10. Shackeel Butters also had 11 rebounds along with Davis to lead the team.
The Eagles shot 50 percent from the field for the game and 63.6 percent from the free-throw line.
