The Williams Baptist University volleyball squad got its 2020 season underway with a sweep of Blue Mountain College on Thursday. The Lady Eagles dispatched BMC 25-23, 25-23, 25-17 before a socially distanced crowd in WBU’s Southerland-Mabee Center.
Molly Henson led the Williams attack with 12 kills, followed closely by Breauna Moore with 11. Madison Lawson and Monica Guerrero chipped in seven and six kills, respectively.
Sydney Burgin had 17 assists for WBU, and Kayla Harp pitched in with 13.
On defense, Shelby Henson paced the Lady Eagles with 19 digs. Elaine Blackmon had 12 digs, while Harp notched eight.
“It’s always great to open your season on a winning note, especially again a quality team like this. I was proud of the way we came together and played. We played as a team and covered what we needed to cover,” said head coach Michelle Lawson.
The volleyball Eagles are now 1-0 on the young season and will open American Midwest Conference play next week against Missouri Baptist and Harris- Stowe.
